I love animals but unfortinatly the city says that I can only have four dogs or animals of that equal number. But I do have a male yellow tabby cat that I rescued from a shelter. The way we met is I stopped in to waste some time at the shelter and had no intentions of getting an animal. When the lady behind the counter asked if she could help me, I asked to see her cats, We walked to the back and most of the cages had little furballs in them that just wanted to be loved and have all the attention in the world, Except this one that had a much larger ball of yellowish fur that really didnt have a care in the world and didn’t pay much attention to me as I was walked through. So I had to see what this yellow furball was like and I asked to see him, as the lady opened the cage and reached towards the fur ball, I stopped her from picking him up insted we opened the cage and let him come out as he pleased. Once he noticed the cage was open he came out with a bound and proceeded straight in to the area where the K-9s where kept with out even batting an eye. Walks all the way through the kennel area and back out to the area where we where. At that moment that was when I decided he needed to come home and become the newist member of my growing familywith all ready having 3 dogs and some fish.

All have been doing well and are well adjusted for the most part. It’s the latest addition that is going to break our hearts. My GF’s coworker, a lawyer who volunteers for a local shelter, started telling her about a tiny (2lbs, 8oz) Yorkshire Terrier that she had rescued. It apparently had a head injury and needed further TLC. My GF fell in love with the little girl as soon as she laid eyes on her. Of course, “Lucy” came home that day. We provided the necessary medical treatment and she made what appeared to be a speedy recovery. 4 days after ending her steriod treatment she nose dived. To make a long story short, it was not a head injury but a brain disease. We took Lucy to the OSU Veterinarian School for evals and found out that she has a fatal type of Encephalitis. We also found out she had 2 pins in one of her femurs from a previous injury. So the little dog that we have had for approx 1 month will be with us for maybe 6 more. She’s currently back on steriods to help make her more “normal” but we know this will only delay the outcome. My hat is off to everyone that takes on rescues without any biases. I’m sure that there will be more in our future because my GF loves animals. But, and I’ll be honest, this is tearing me up inside watching Lucy each day knowing that someday soon we’ll have to say goodbye and have her put down. To see those big brown eyes on that tiny face looking up at you in wonderment and without any knowledge of what’s coming is crushing. Each day we spend with her is special as she has her own antics that make us smile.

If you hunt, or eat any meat, if you wear make-up, or leather, or benefit in any way from all science involving animals, or you support those who do, I think you are making a huge mistake in lending your support to a radical group such as ASPCA.

I realize that life is complex, we all have varied, and widely divergent views, still at the same time with some similar. I will not tolerate cruelty to animals, Nor will I support those that work to ban lawful hunting based on misguided emotion.

We have seen many horses, dogs, cats come and go, but we try to them a quality, yet realistic, life while they are here…..
